Florida Bat House

About Southern Evening Bats

Found in much of the Eastern United States in summer, the tiny evening bat usually inhabits buildings or tree cavities, preferring forest and open habitats such as wetlands and river corridors and almost never entering caves. Habitat loss has deprived this species of its original roosts, and further losses result when wooden barns and other old buildings are replaced by structures that bats can not use. Evening bats are highly beneficial consumers of insect pests. Artificial roosts could greatly aid in the protection of this species. ~ AWARE
